Product Review: Best Protein Bars

*Thank you to BPI Sports for providing samples for this review. The opinions and words are my own.

I am not really much of a protein bar fan. A protein shake? Yes, always a fan, but mostly because I can add my own favorites to the mix. I really like food and putting my own twist on it. However, sometimes you need a quick fix! I do reach for protein bars when I am traveling or eating a snack on the run. A lot of smaller sized bars come in race packets so I am a big fan of those trimmed down sizes.

BPI sent over some protein bars to try. They were half the size of a regular bar, but the nutrition facts below are for a full sized bar.
  • Cookies and Cream: chocolate and white chocolate chips with a delicious crunch. (230 calories, 8g fat, 28g carb, 20g protein, 16g fiber)
  • S'Mores: graham cracker and chocolate chips with a bit of a cinnamon taste. (240 calories, 9g fat, 28g carb, 20g protein, 15g fiber)
I wish they were sold in the sample size because it made a better snack than a full sized bar! The calories are pretty high so this would definitely serve better as a pre-race breakfast and not as a snack.

Both of the bars were sweet and crispy or crunchy while still being softer than most protein bars I have had before. The texture was great for a protein bar; softer than most, and easily shareable! Taste wise, it was a really good choice. There was a bit of a protein after taste, but that's usually the case with protein bars.

What I liked:
  • sweet flavor
  • creamier/softer than other protein bars
  • gluten free
  • sweetened with Stevia (and sucralose, a.k.a. Splenda)
  • high fiber
What I didn't like:
  • protein bar after taste
  • high calorie
  • I don't love Palm Kernel Oil
Would I buy it?
  • If I regularly bought protein bars, this would be my go to. As for me? No. I am a fan of getting protein in through foods. I don't stock bars or sports snacks on a regular basis, but they are nice for a super active or travel day.
  • Make the sample size available for purchase. I know a lot of kid's who need healthier snack sized options for days at the ballpark!
